Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is one of the most difficult diseases to be diagnosed at an early stage of its inception because of the very non specific nature of its symptoms. Also, the latency period from the time the victim is exposed to asbestos fibers to the occurrences of the symptoms is very high, sometimes as high as 30 to 50 years.

The symptoms of this hazardous disease are common to a lot of other non-fatal ailments like common cold, asthama, etc.

Following are the most common symptoms of mesothelioma:-

           ·      Shortness of breath and pain in the chest

           ·      Weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling

           ·      Bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever

           ·      Continuous and persistent coughing for long period

At the higher stages, the symptoms may also include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

If anyone faces any of these symptoms for an extended period of time, then, he/she should consult the doctor immediately for proper diagnosis. Also, if a person associated with any of the high risk occupations finds these symptoms, then, he should update the doctor with his past medical history that would help the doctor decide a great deal on the type of diagnosis used.
